What's happening with NOLA Christmas Fest in 2020

Christmas in New Orleans is a little different this year, and so is NOLA Christmas Fest.

This year NOLA Christmas Fest is going virtual and best of all it's FREE!

There will be a week of Christmas fun hosted by Santa's Elves, including Christmas crafts, holiday baking, holiday dance classes, nightly book reading from some of our favorite Christmas characters, and so much more.

You can find the full schedule and register to attend all the virtual events via Zoom on the NOLA Christmas Fest website.

NOLA Christmas Fest

Last year is the third year that my family has attended and each year it gets better and better.  My boys are 11, 7, 7, and 6 and they LOVE NOLA Christmas Fest. With busy active boys, finding something they all love that keeps them entertained is a challenge. NOLA Christmas Fest does just that.

While we attended the preview party for free I have a feeling we will be going back because that's how much fun my boys had.  Here's are my reasons why love it so much and why you should go to NOLA Christmas Fest.

NOLA Christmas Fest is Handicap Accessible

My oldest has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair for mobility. For my family, the event is as close to perfect as it can possibly get.

It's also fully handicap accessible and climate controlled which is great for my oldest. Even the maze was accessible to his wheelchair.

NOLA Christmas Fest is Beautifully Put Together

There are a number of beautiful light displays outside on Convention Center Boulevard.

Inside the fest there are attendants working everywhere–all of them friendly. Before you enter there's a giant inflated snow globe you can step inside to take a picture!I'm extremely dense and they had to say it to me three times before I understood I could actually get IN the snow globe!

Once inside, they have the beautiful area of Christmas trees and this year it looked bigger than ever and the sponsors definitely went all out in their decorating.  Oh and you can't miss all the Gingerbread houses and characters.

For the fun and games they have several large inflatables this year for the youngest attendees–including a giant snowman you could jump inside! They have several carnival-style rides, which my children adore, a maze, a “snow ball” fight area, curling, an ice slide, and of course. . . ice skating! If you've lived your life in the deep south, you know how rare it is to get an opportunity to go ice skating around here.

I think my boys are pretty much the perfect age for this event right now. Rides and giant slides are completely their jam. We could have stayed there for HOURS but sadly the event was only two hours long. If you have very small children, there might not be enough for them to do. Plenty of inflatables, but the ice skating and rides might be too much.
