There are so many changes happening around Disney World. There are also new movies hitting the theaters in the next two years.  It’s safe to say the Disney Imagineers are hard at work creating masterpieces on the screen and on the property! Disney Movies Coming To Theaters In 2017


This movie Thanksgiving, November 22nd, under the director Lee Unkrich, and producer Darla K. Anderson. Co-director and screenwriter Adrian Molina will join them in the film. The story is of a boy who dreams of becoming a musician like his hero, however his family banned music some time ago. A decision brings the boy to the Land of the Dead. “In the end it’s a story about the importance of family, honoring your ancestors, and following your dreams,” said Molina.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure

A twenty-one minute holiday featurette for Coco, which opens November 22, 2017. The original cast of frozen is back! Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton from Prep & Landing will direct, and Roy Conli from Big Hero 6 will be the producer. This featurette is sure to be a hit!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The story continues on from The Force Awakens to bring to light some old mysteries and shocking revelations. Even though Carrie Fisher has passed away, her role in the film is still present. Let’s all flock to the movie theaters on December 19th to find out more of this continuing saga.

A Wrinkle In Time

Opening March 9th, 2018, his movie is classic book and features a cast you won’t forget. With big names like Oprah and Reece Witherspoon you are sure to be captivated by this story. A young, intelligent teenage girl struggles with the disappearance of her father. She is then introduced to three celestial beings who take her on an out of this world quest to find her father. She is confronted with evil and must defeat the darkness within herself to return home.

Avengers: Infinity War

Opens May4, 2018. The cast we already know is back to sacrifice everything in “the deadliest showdown of all time.”

Incredibles 2

The film will feature fashion in a fun way through the eyes of Edna Mode. Most of the original cast is back, and also welcoming Huck Milner as the voice of Dash. The film will  open June 15, 2018.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

This movie continue on from the love affair with video games in moving to the internet. The original cast is back as well as a newcomer. Also, Taraji P. Henson from Hidden Figures and Empire, will be voicing Yesss. According to the director, Rich Moore, “If it’s cool, if it’s trendy, if it’s now, Yesss has discovered it and shared it with the world.” Opening November 21, 2019.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

Opening November 2, 2018, just in time for the holiday season! This classic will get a new take from Disney. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Hellen Mirren as Mother Ginger, and Morgan Freeman as godfather Drosselmeyer. It will also include the Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers, and Land of Sweets which will  add on a fourth realm which is strange and mysterious.

Mary Poppins Returns

A much anticipated sequel to the original film, will focus on the next generation of the Banks family and their adventures. An all star cast featuring Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury, and Dick Van Dyke opens Christmas Day 2018.

Disney Movies Coming To Theaters In 2019


Live action Dumbo via the brilliant vision of Tim Burton about a man and his family caring for a baby elephant born with unusually large ears. The cast features Collin Farrell, Danny DeVito, and Michael Keaton. You won’t want to miss this film! Opens March 29, 2019.

Untitled film to explore the future of aviation will open April 12, 2019.

Untitled Avengers movie will May 3, 2019


Go back to Acraba with Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Will Smith as the Genie. Set to open on May 24, 2019. No other information is available at this time.

Toy Story 4

The next movie in the Toy Story Series the release date will be June 21, 2019.

The Lion King

DIrected by Jon Favreau, will debut on July 19th 2019. Favreau, who directed the live action Jungle Book, wanted to take another classic live. The movie will feature Donald Glover as Simba, and who else but, James Earl Jones as Mufasa.

Frozen 2

Set to open November 27, 2019 and will feature the original cast. The Frozen directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and producer Peter Del Vecho are also returning for the adventures in Arendelle.

Disney Movies With No Release Date

An untitled film with the director Dan Scanlon will follow the story of two teenage elf brothers. Like Scanlon, the teenagers lost their father at a young age and wonder what he was like. Fortunately there’s a little magic left to let them spend a day with their father. A release date has not been set yet, but Kori Rae from Monster’s University will produce the film.


A live action version is in the works. No other information is available at this time.

The Jungle Cruise

A new movie based on one of the best rides at Walt Disney World, featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is in the works. No other information is available at this time.

Which movie are you most excited to see in theaters? I cannot wait for Toy Story 4! I think the Toy Story series is my favorite set of Disney films. Of course, I’m also itching to see what new adventures occur in Arendelle!
