Everything You Need To Know About Disney’s Memory Maker

Mickey Selfie

You've booked your Walt Disney World trip and you're thinking about you're going to preserve the memories you make. Do you bring your good camera? Do you rely on your phone? How you make sure you have all the pictures you want from this magical trip. The answer is super simple – Disney's Memory Maker. Here are a few reasons you need to add Memory Maker to your Walt Disney World Vacation Package.

Let me tell you I am a Memory Maker convert. I thought I would have no use for the service and wouldn't want the pictures anyway. Then we became Annual Passholders. Memory Maker comes included and our APs and I LOVE it so so much. Now I still bring my big DSLR camera with me to the parks. I'm a photographer and I have to be taking pictures. So between myself and Memory Maker, I get to capture every single moment of our trips.  One of my favorite parts is now that the kids are getting older and my 17 yr old likes to go off on his own in the parks, with Memory Maker I can still get pictures of him and I don't have to be there.

What Is Memory Maker?

Memory Maker is Walt Disney World's photo service. You can purchase it at a discounted price and include it into your Walt Disney World Vacation Package. However, if you choose not to, you can purchase during your trip or when you get home. The cost before your trip is $169 and $199 during and after your trip. Remember, if you decide to purchase Memory Maker before your trip, the discounted price does not include photos taken within three days of purchase.

Memory Marker is linked to your ticket card or your Magic Band. When you take a picture with a PhotoPass Photographer, your photo will appear in your My Disney Experiences App where you can edit and download it to share with the world.

Ways To Make the Most of Memory Maker at Walt Disney World

Stop At Every PhotoPass Photographer You See

Ok, well maybe not all of them! There are hundreds of PhotoPass Photographers throughout the parks. You can find them when entering, in front of each parks landmark (Cinderella Castle, Tree of Life, Chinese Theater, Spaceship Earth), most places where there is a nice background, at attractions. They are everywhere. Take advantage of them, and get some great pictures of the kids and YOU. Yes you mom, get out from behind the camera and get in the picture. This is one of the best ways to ensure you will get a ton of pictures. Even if you don't stop at everyone you see, you will get over 100 pictures without trying.

Take Some Magic Shots

Ok, so anyone can take a picture for you.  This is true, but can they add things to your pictures? What kind of things you ask? Magic Shots featuring Tinkerbell, Stitch, Olaf and so on. You should always ask the PhotoPass Photographer if they have any magic shots. The won’t tell you what they are inserting, it’s a surprise, but they will pose you and tell you what kind of faces to make. Sometimes they even add a video!

There are also special magic shots set up around the parks like the lantern shots by the Rapunzel bathrooms and the Teacups.

Play with the Characters

PhotoPass Photographers are at most character meet and greets. The only Character we met that didn't have a photographer with her was Mary Poppins. She prefers it this way. Photographers are there to capture every moment of your meet and greet. Even though I had my camera on me at all times, the photographers did a better job than I did. They seem to capture things I can't and honestly, with the lighting in most rooms it's hard to get my camera settings just perfect. So many amazing moments would have been missed, like my daughter taking a selfie with Mickey, or walking hand and hand with him, her big hug from Chewbacca and Fairy Godmother and so much more. The best part, I got to be in some of the pictures too. That normally doesn't happen.

Rides Photos and Video

Here’s where it gets better! There’s no way you can take a picture of yourself while on a ride. Selfie sticks are banned and on most rides you can’t hold onto your phone to take a picture. Well with the Memory Maker you can get these photos! The rides vary throughout the parks. We have pictures from Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Fast Track, Splash Mountain and more. Getting these memories of my daughter's first rides are PRICELESS. Oh and sometimes you even get a video. The video of her first time on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is gold. Some rides automatically show up, some you have to scan your Magic Band or ticket card at the end of the ride.

Dining Photos

While the PhotoPass Photographers do not follow the characters around during Character Dining Experiences, some meals have Characters and other places outside the dining room where you can take a picture. That's where you will find a PhotoPass Photographer ready to capture a hug with Belle or the whole family at breakfast.  You can purchase these separately but that can get pricey and maybe even cost more than Memory Maker when you add it all up.

You Can Edit Your Photos

Right from the My Disney Experience App or from your computer when you get home. You can add borders, dates, characters, and other fun things that are exclusive to Memory Maker.

So go on, purchase Memory Maker and give yourself one less thing to worry about during your Walt Disney World Vacation
