When we first started venturing out with two kids, I remember the drama involved with long trips with two kids in a car. We started doing day trips from New Orleans and overnight trips to the Gulfport/Biloxi area because it felt like a getaway but without the endless hours in the car. One of our favorite places to go still is the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center. There have been many visits where my Mom has dropped us off and gone to the outlet mall or Hudson’s Treasure Hunt to shop while we were there.

Someone asked me recently to compare it to the other local children’s museums. Lyn Meadows is larger than the Hammond facility but smaller than the New Orleans one.
Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is located at 246 Dolan Avenue, Gulfport, Mississippi. Open Tuesday – Saturday from 10am-5pm, Sunday from NOON-5pm. Also open Mondays during the summer and on certain monday holidays from 10am-5pm. The museum has two floors and 15,000 square feet. LMDC has a train depot, a loading dock, a grocery store, a news room, a vet area and much much more for children to explore!
Saving Money on Admission at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center
The regular cost of admission at Lynn Meadows is $10 for children and adults, $8 for military and seniors 65+, and FREE for infants 0-12 months. However there are various ways to save money. If your kids are like mine and fly through activities, you can take advantage of the weekdays between 3 to 5 for $3 deal. Two hours is the perfect amount of time for my kids. Also, the last Friday of the month admission is free from 5 to 8.
Food at Lynn Meadows
At LMDC but they do not sell full meals. However, they do have vending machines and sell snack items. There is a nice area outside if you wanted to have a picnic. If you decided to leave for lunch and want to come back later, they will stamp your hand.
Make Sure Kids Wear Proper Shoes
They have an awesome two story climbing area for kids that my kids love. There are also outside exhibits for the kids to explore. Wearing sneakers or closed toed shoes is a must when visiting Lynn Meadows.
Art Studio at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center
Each day LMDC has a cool craft projects for the kids to participate in. Because some take time to dry, I would recommend checking out the project and timing needed for the Art Studio upon arrival.
Events At Lynn Meadows
In addition to the museum, Lynn Meadows offers a variety of other events such as cooking classes for kids and adults, plays and American Girl Tea. We have been to the American Girl Tea and recommend it as a must do for girls that love their dolls.
Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is something fun and different that is worth the drive from New Orleans. I hope that you will visit and enjoy!
