Having two children with special needs and a husband with a host of issues that have landed him in the hospital multiple times over the last few years, healthcare is a BIG issue in my house. We have to have it and it also needs to be affordable.  Did you know that most area hospitals have sliding-scale assistance programs and they are for families like yours and mine? Here is all the details about the different. Including the programs at hospitals in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish. We also have information on Medicaid and LACHIP.

State and Medicaid Programs

Extended Medicaid

Extended Medicaid is Medicaid includes everyone from the ages of 19-64 as long as you do not qualify for Medicare who make  under 138% poverty level. Learn More

LaCHIP

Louisiana’s program for children ages 0-19. t is a no-cost health program that pays for hospital care, doctor visits, prescription drugs, shots. It also provides dental care, eye care and more. Learn more and apply here. 

LaCHIP Affordable Plan

Louisiana’s health insurance program for uninsured children in moderate income families whose income is too much to qualify for regular LaCHIP.  Learn more and apply here

LaMOMS

LaMoms is a Medicaid program for pregnant women in the State of Louisiana. It will pay for pregnancy-related services, including doctor visits, lab work, prescription medicines, delivery, and hospital care. Also for families where it would be a financial hardship to pay the expected out of pocket expenses. Families making under 200% of the federal poverty level will have no financial responsibility. For residents of Mississippi and Louisiana who need medically necessary or emergency care and are unable to pay. Assistance covers your direct portion of your bill. Also, those under 200% of the federal poverty level may receive 100% discount. Learn more

West Jefferson Medical Center

Provides financial assistance for families who are uninsured and underinsured. Also, if it would be a financial hardship to pay in full the expected out of pocket expenses for services.  Families making under 200% of the federal poverty level will have no financial responsibility. IAlso, if you fall between 200 and 400%, you may get discounted rates for the care received. Learn more

Provides financial assistance for families who are uninsured, underinsured. Also, if it would be a financial hardship to pay in full the expected out of pocket expenses.  Families making under 200% of the federal poverty level will have no financial responsibility.Also, if you fall between 200 and 400%, you may get discounted rates for the care received. Tulane Medical Center and Tulane Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children

Tulane Medical Center and Tulane Lakeside give charity discounts for those who do not qualify for state or federal assistance and need medically necessary and emergency care. Those under 200% of the federal poverty level may receive 100% discount. Also, those who exceed these these thresholds may receive a 40-90% discount.  Learn More 

University Medical Center (UMCNO)

Provides financial assistance for families who are uninsured, underinsured. East Jefferson General Hospital

Provides financial assistance to individuals who have emergency and essential or non-elective health care needs and are uninsured, underinsured, ineligible for a government program, or otherwise are unable to pay, for medically necessary care based on their individual financial circumstance. Daughters of Charity provides care for chronic illnesses such as asthma, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression. They also provide care for women’s health, behavioral/mental health, dental, optometry, pharmacy, and podiatry on a sliding scale fee.
