There’s lots of free fun going on in the New Orleans area this week and I’m excited to share my favorites! Thankfully it will be warming up this week and life can go back to as normal as we get around here. Here are your 10+ FUN, FREE things to do in New Orleans this week. (Jan.22-Jan.28)

 

Scrabble Tournament

Monday, Jan.22nd 5pm at NAS JRB New Orleans Library, 400 Russell Ave., Bldg 57 in Belle Chasse. To RSVP call 504-678-3078.


Mornings with Mommy

Tuesday, Jan.23rd 11am at Barnes and Noble, 3721 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie. Follow the adventures of a panda who does things her own way in Flo by Kyo Maclear and stay for activities afterward.

Fruit Tree Adoption at Tulane

Tuesday, Jan.23 from 4p-6p at Newcomb Art Museum, Woldenberg Art Center. Join the Endless Orchid Project with artists “Fallen Fruit” in adopting a fruit tree to plant over a walkway accessable to the public in New Orleans so passersby can pick ripe fruit. This event is part of a much larger movement, for more information and registration find the links on the facebook event page.


Baby Sign and Play

Wednesday, Jan.24th from 2pm-3pm at ZukaBaby, 3248 Severn Ave. in Metairie. Learn to sign, sing a song, and enjoy storytime with friends during open play.

Wednesday, Jan.24th from 4p-8p at the Chick-fil-A in Kenner, 2236 Veterans Blvd.

Drama Kids Demo Class!

Wednesday, Jan.24th from 5p-6p at We Rock the Spectrum-New Orleans, located in the Esplanade Mall. Try out a drama class for your kiddo. Open play will be available before class for students and during class for siblings for $6. You must Register!!

Community Breastfeeding “Grand Rounds” #2

Wednesday, Jan.24th from 5:30pm-7pm at the Mid-City Branch Library, 4140 Canal St. Join the open discussion about lactation support featuring Birthmark Doula Collective and Nurse Nikki LLC. You must register to reserve your spot.


Chef Nino Cooking Class

Thursday, Jan.25th, 10am at Rouse’s Market, 3711 Power Blvd. in Metairie. If you enjoy learning how to make Mock Creole Turtle Soup in this cooking class, you’ll certainly love tasting it!

Leroy’s Place New Orleans Gallery Show: Monstervision!

Thursday, Jan.25th from 6p-9p at Oleander, 1000 Royal St. in New Orleans. This Grand ReOpening looks too fun to pass up with cardboard monster art, puppetry, film, and more by artists Serene Bacigalupi, Jacques Duffourc, Whitney Raynor, and Leroy’s Place Original Art.


River Bend BBQ Festival

Friday Jan.26th 4pm-10pm – Saturday, Jan. 27th 10am-8pm at Lafreniere Park, 3000 Downs Blvd. in Metairie. This is the 2nd year for the festival where you can enjoy live music, vendors, and over 50 BBQ competitors.


Mardi Gras Breastfeeding Baby Shower

Saturday, Jan.27th from 11am-2pm join Champs Nola Baby Café at Ashé Powerhouse Theater, 1731 Baronne St. in New Orleans to parade your decorated stroller or baby carrier. They will have a daddy panel, food, raffles, door prizes, and important information. You can also bring baby items to donate.

Fancy Nancy-Oodles of Kittens Special Event

Saturday, Jan.27th, 11am at Barnes and Noble, 3721 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie. Can Nancy handle all the pets? find out at this storytime and stay for an activity afterward.

Kids Free Admission Preseason Football Game

Saturday, Jan.27th from 6pm-9pm at Joe Brown Park, 10900 Lake Forest Blvd. See the Louisiana Lightning play at Victory Stadium. Kids 15 & under are free, for more info and general admission tickets $5.


 

Mia Borders Book Signing and Performance

Sunday, Jan.28th from 2pm-4pm at the Garden District Book Shop, 2727 Prytania St. in New Orleans. Mia is a local author and will be performing and signing copies of her newest book Hey! So, I’m a baby.

STEM Studio for Kids

Sunday Jan.28th, 7pm at the Victory Fellowship Children’s Ministry, 5708 Airline Dr. in Metairie, kids ages 5-11 can come for recurring fun STEM activities and experiments.
