Carnival Season has begun, the Saints are in the playoffs, it snowed twice in southern Louisiana, and New Orleans is 300 years old! It’s the calm before the storm as we are saving our energy until Mardi Gras gets into full swing. There is still fun to be had, so here are our 10 FREE Things to do in New Orleans this Week (Jan.8th-Jan.14th).

Wreath Laying Ceremony to Honor the Troops of the Battle of New Orleans

Monday, Jan.8th at 9:30am (park and battlefield open from 9am-4pm), at the Chalmette Monument. Park at the battlefield, 8606 W. St. Bernard Hwy. Spend the day at the battlefield and monument honoring and enjoying our history.

Wreath-Laying Ceremony

Monday, Jan.8th, 12:30pm in the 700 block of Decatur St. Presented by the National Society United States Daughters of 1812, join in the celebration as they honor the 1814-1815 New Orleans campaign at Jackson Square.

DIY Shoe Keychains

Monday, Jan.8th from 3:30pm-9pm at the East Bank Regional Library in the Teen Center. Stop in and pick up your supplies, or stay and make your keychain. Supplies are limited.

Read and Sing

Tuesday, Jan.9th from 10am-10:30 am at the East Bank Regional Library by the children’s stage area. Toddlers and preschoolers can enjoy songs, finger play, and the story Each Orange had Eight Slices by Paul Giganti.

Infant Nutrition with Nurse Nikki

Wednesday, Jan.10th from 10am-11am at Zukababy, 3428 Severn Ave., Metairie. Enjoy unbiased breastfeeding and formula feeding support and nutritional advice. R.S.V.P. at info@zukababy.com or 504-407-2700.

Drop-in Line Dancing Class

Wednesday, Jan.10th at 1pm hosted by Refresh Project. Held in the lobby at 300 N. Broad St., NOLA. Get in some fun exercise by shaking your tail feather every Wednesday.

Baby Sign and Play

Wednesday, Jan.10th from 2pm-3pm at ZukaBaby, 3248 Severn Ave. in Metairie. Learn to sign, sing a song, and enjoy storytime with friends during open play.

Storytime with a Craft

Thursday, Jan.11th from 3:30pm-4:30pm at the Harahan Library in the Children’s Area. Children 4-11 years old can come listen to Pinkalicious and the Snowglobe by Victoria Kann for storytime and stay to make your very own snow globe after!

Mardi Gras at Home at the Williams Residence

Friday, Jan.12th from 9:30am-4:30pm at 533 Royal St. in New Orleans. Visit the Williams home, founders of The Historic New Orleans Collection, decorated for Carnival Season with favors, costumes, and royal crown jewels on a self guided tour.

Family Wellness Expo

Saturday, Jan.13th from 10am-2pm at our partnership location Center Court in the Esplanade Mall sponsored by Rapid Urgent Care. Come for featured vendors, wellness info, DJ, bounce house and characters for the kids, fitness demos,  free screenings and more!
