Happy New Year! The year we are giving you more FREE and more FUN! Christmas is over and we are rolling right on in to Mardi Gras. Here are our Top 10 FREE Things to do in New Orleans Jan.1st – Jan.7th. Laissez les bons temps rouler! 

Baby Sign and Play

Wednesday, Jan.3rd from 2pm-3pm at ZukaBaby, 3248 Severn Ave. in Metairie. Learn to sign, sing a song, and enjoy storytime with friends during open play.

Drop-in Line Dancing Class

Wednesday, Jan. 3rd at 1pm hosted by Refresh Project. Held in the lobby at 300 N. Broad St., NOLA. Get in some fun exercise by shaking your tail feather every Wednesday

The U Youth Group

Wednesdays starting Jan.3rd from 6:30pm -8:30pm in the Victory Fellowship Gym, 5708 Airline Dr. in Metairie. Play basketball, foosball, ping pong, air hockey, and more. Service starts at 7pm. Snacks and pizza are available to buy. They also offer free tutoring from 6pm – 7pm.

Lani Sarem book signing

Thursday, Jan.4th at 7pm, Barnes & Noble, 3721 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie. With Comic Con in town this week, author Lani Sarem, along with actor Thomas Nicholas will be signing and sharing copies of their new book, and future movie, Handbook for Mortals.

Concert at New Orleans Jazz National Park Visitors Center

Friday, Jan.5th from 11am -11:45am at 916 N. Peters in the French Market. “Jazz” up the day with some family friendly music and fun. You’ll definitely leave hungry and singin’ “come and eat it up!”

FREE Fridays at NOBL!

Friday, Jan.5th at 12 noon at New Orleans Boulder Lounge, 1746 Tchoupitoulas St., NOLA. To climb rock walls free, you must fill this waiver out before you go.

Music Box Village Public Hours

Friday, Jan.5th from 3pm-7pm; Saturday, Jan.6th & Sunday Jan.7th from 10am-7pm at 4557 N. Rampart St. “Come play in our musical town” and immerse yourself in the combined works of the over 50 artists who built the Village. Admission is free, but donations are welcome to support public use.

Grand Opening! Mardi Gras Recycling Center

Saturday, Jan.6th from 10am-2pm at  925 Labarre Rd. in Metairie. The Arc of Greater New Orleans will be having raffles, giveaways, live music, food, drink, and more to celebrate the grand opening of this facility that will aid in  employing disabled members of our community.

What do you do with a Chance? Storytime

Saturday, Jan.6th 11am at Barnes & Noble, 3721 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie. From the best selling author Kobi Yamada, enjoy this inspirational and encouraging book from the award-winning picture book series.

Mini Art Center(MAC) Open Session GAMES

Saturday, Jan.6th from 12 noon-5pm at 341 Seguin St. in Algeirs Point. MAC offers different, unique experiences each visit. Enjoy family time in the book nook, create a make-n-take, and explore with your kids. Everything is free, donations are appreciated!

Twelfth Night Revelry & The Lights in the Sky

Saturday, Jan.6th at 6pm. These events kick off our Mardi Gras Season! Claim your spots because this year is not just any Twelfth Night Celebration, we also celebrate our tricentennial year!!!! As tradition goes, the Phunny Phorty Phellows will ride the streetcar line from Carrollton, down St. Charles Ave., & around Lee Circle. The newest krewe, Société Des Champs Elysée will ride the Rampart/St. Claude streetcar line. Afterwards, get yourself or your attention to the “Mighty Mississippi” for the “Lights in the Sky” tricentennial fireworks display.
