Summer in New Orleans is HOT! That’s why we all are thankful for waterparks and other ways to cool off during the summer. One of our favorite New Orleans attractions where you can cool off is Cool Zoo at Audubon Zoo. Here are six things you need to know about Cool Zoo for your next visit sponsored by SLEA Aquatics.

When To Get to Cool Zoo

Cool Zoo is open during zoo hours from 10am-5pm daily through August 12th. Then weekends only from August 18th through September 3rd and on Labor Day, September 4th. If you want the good tables under the shade tree, you need to get there at park opening.  Also weekdays are less crowded than weekends so if you can plan your visit during the week.

Cool Zoo Prices

Cool Zoo is not included in zoo admission. The cost to enter Cool Zoo and Gator Run is $12 non-members / $10 members (includes tax) for ages 2 and older. You can also get the POP wristband, which includes admission to Cool Zoo, Gator Run, Train rides and Carousel rides, for $14 non-members/ $12 members (includes tax). In addition there are Zoo/Cool Zoo Combo Tickets you can purchase as well for  Adult: $29.95 (plus sales tax), Child: $24.95 (plus sales tax), and Senior: $26.95 (plus sales tax).

Food At Cool Zoo

There are concessions stands inside Cool Zoo but those can get a bit pricey. To save money you can pack your lunch. Each family is allowed to bring in one suitcase, backpack or cooler under 28 quart size. No alcohol, glass containers and disposable straws and lids are allowed. Also there is no eating in the splash zones or in Gator Run.

Safety First

To ensure the safety of all guest Cool Zoo and Gator Run have the following safety rules:

  • No running
  • Swim diapers for non potty trained children
  • No Smoking
  • No Alcohol
  • No Glass Containers
  • No Climbing Slides
  • No Diving in Gator Run
  • Children 48 inches and under must wear a life vest in Gator Run

In addition to the rules Cool Zoo also has a Cub Check policy which gives Every child under 13 has a unique marking that corresponds with that of their caregivers wristband. This is checked upon exiting Cool Zoo.

Gator Run

Gator Run is a lazy river with 750 ft of river, 2 sand beaches and a concession cart. Rafts and tubes are free for floaters, as well as life vests for the little lazies under 48 inches.

Swim Lessons at Cool Zoo

Did you know you can take swim lessons at Cool Zoo?  SELA Aquatics offers private and semi-private swim lessons at Cool Zoo for ages 3 and up. Register on their website and their experienced, certified instructors will contact you to schedule your lessons at a time that is mutually convenient. How cool is that? SELA also offers  swim lessons at  Chateau Country Club and year round at UNO Aquatics Center
