There are so many fun things to do with kids in New Orleans this February! Mardi Gras is in full swing, Valentine’s Day, and most of them are FREE. These are our 28 favorite things to do during February in New Orleans with kids.

  1. February is bake for family fun month and today is decorate with candy day, so what better way to spend the day than doing just that! Yummy!!!*
  2. Head over to the neutral ground across from Lakeside Mall for Family Gras to experience unique art, interactive fun, and live music from local artists starting at 5:30pm. Then, catch Krewe of Excalibur that starts rolling at 7pm. Orleans Parish also has the Krewe of Oshun and Krewe of Cleopatra tonight at 6pm.* 
  3. Family Gras fun isn’t over yet! At 11am, catch live entertainment starting with the Imagination Movers and stay through Cyndi Lauper who performs at 6pm. On the Jefferson Parish Parade Schedule for this night is the Krewe of Caesar rolling at 7pm. Want more parades? The New Orleans Parade Schedule tonight includes the Krewe of Pontchatrain, Krewe of Choctaw, Krewe of Freret, ‘tit Rəx, Knights of Sparta, Krewe of Sparta, Krewe of Pygmalion, and Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus.*
  4. Mardi Gras Mambo your way to the Uptown Parades for 11am to see Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale, followed by Krewe of Carrollton, next up try to find King Arthur’s Grail in the Krewe of King Arthur and Merlin, rounding out this rowdy bunch is Krewe of Alla. At 2pm in the French Quarter you’ll definitely want to see this “Game of Bones” when the dog parade Barkus walks by.* 
  5. Create a masterpiece during Walk-In Play from 10am-5pm at Lil’ Yats Art and Play. $15 for materials and 2 hours of artful play time. Baby yats(under 1) get in free with sibling. 
  6. Help your little sweetheart make a Suncatcher craft and listen to Letter V is for Valentine’s Day by Cynthia Rylant from 10:30am-11:30am for Storytime with Craft in the Meeting Room at the Old Metairie Library.* 
  7. We sail into the Mystic Krewe of Druids at 6:30pm, let your soul and spirit fly into the Mystic Krewe of Nyx afterwards on the traditional Uptown Parade Route. Don’t forget to get a hand-decorated Nyx purse!* 
  8. They all asked for you on the Uptown Parade Route for one of the oldest Mardi Gras Krewes, the Knights of Babylon, starting at 5:30pm on Napoleon and followed by the Krewe of Chaos. Starting at Magazine and Jefferson, following the same route, you’ll have a chance to catch one of the Krewe of Muses’ highly coveted shoes to go with your purse.* 
  9. Heck yeah we Parade again! Uptown catch Hermes at 6pm followed by Le Krewe d’Etat starting on Napoleon and Morpheus rolls from Magazine and Jefferson at 7pm. Also at 7pm, catch some “Treasures of the Sea” from the Krewe of Centurions on the traditional Veteran’s Route.* 
  10. “Iko Iko andé!” It’s going to be a battle of the Krewes today! At 10:45am see the Krewe of NOMTOC rolling on the Westbank Route. At 11am catch some sunglasses from Krewe of Iris Uptown followed by Krewe of Tucks. Then, at 4:15pm, get ready for Super Krewe Endymion cruising down the Mid-City Route and finishing in the Superdome.* 
  11. Plan to catch Uptown Parades starting at 11am with Krewe of Okeanos followed by Krewe of Mid-City and Krewe of Thoth with a break to have some fun on the parade route or take a rest. Then, Super Krewe Bacchus makes its way to the route at 5:15, ending in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.* Meanwhile in Metairie see the confetti cannons of Corps de Napoleon at 4:30pm followed by Krewe of Athena, and Krewe of Pandora.* 
  12. Kickin’ it Uptown tonight for LUNDI GRAS with Proteus at 5:15pm and Super Krewe of Orpheus and it’s steam locomotive float, Smokey Mary, that will end in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.* 
  13. HAPPY MARDI GRAS! Today’s the day we can’t wait for, FAT TUESDAY! Whether you stake out you spot to party with the Uptown convoy beginning at 8am with Krewe of Zulu then Krewe of Rex and truck parades Krewe of Elks Orlenians and Krewe of Crescent City, OR you get your fun in Metairie watching Krewe of Argus starting at 10am followed by the truck parades Krewe of Elks and Krewe of Jefferson, there is no reason not to Laissez les bons temps rouler!!* 
  14. Go to Ash Wednesday Mass! Show your Valentine how much you care, or totally avoid all of this, recover and rest up from all of the festivities!* 
  15. Every Thursday older teens can join +1 Gaming for Board Game Night starting at 5pm. Bring a game or just show up and meet new gamers.* 
  16. Try an award-winning movement and music class that will build your child a foundation for a lifetime by booking an Introductory Class at Kindermusik with Madeline.
  17. Build a design with a theme during Lego Club at the Old Metairie Library from 11am-12pm. Other branches have Lego Club this day also.* 
  18. Today is the day most kids dream about, Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. Need I say more?* 
  19. Shake your silly out during Creative Movement with Elle at We Rock the Spectrum New Orleans in the Esplanade Mall from 10:15am-11am. 
  20. It’s Story Time at The French Library from 10:30am-11am for kids 5 and under. * 
  21. Teaching kids to love of reading early is so important, which makes this Storytime with Craft for ages 2-5 perfect. They’ll have so much fun getting their “Wiggles and Giggles” in  from 10:30am-11:30am at the North Kenner Library in the Meeting room.* 
  22. Immerse yourself in the most beautiful, eclectic and complete collection of Southern Art free for Louisiana Residents on Thursdays thanks to the Helis Foundation, at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
  23. Follow a journey of “love, acceptance, and what it means to be a hero” at Opening Night of The Hunchback of Notre Dame put on by JPAS at the Jefferson Parish Performing Arts Center in Metairie at 7:30pm. Tickets start at just $20. 
  24. Enjoy time in the book nook, create a make-n-take, and explore with your kids for a unique experience from 12pm-5pm at Mini Art Center’s Open Session. Adventures are free, donations are appreciated!* 
  25. “Come play in our musical town” and immerse yourself in the combined works of over 50 Artists who built the Music Box Village. From 10am-7pm, admission is free  at Open Hours at Music Box Village, donations are welcome to support public use.* 
  26. It’s Tell a Fairytale Day. Read your favorites or create your own to make it more interesting.*
  27. Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? Well, you can try while celebrating Dr. Seuss’ Birthday by attending Storytime with Craft at the Old Metairie Library in the Meeting Room from 10:30-11:30. You’ll even get to make a Dr. Seuss hat to commemorate the day!*
  28. Groove your way into March at Drop-in Line Dancing Class hosted by Refresh Project every Wednesday.
