The highlight of Mardi Gras in Jefferson Parish is Family Gras. Family Gras takes place the weekend before Mardi Gras on the Veterans neutral ground across from Lakeside Mall. While Family Gras is traditionally three days, this year it is only two days – Friday, February 2nd and Saturday, February 3rd. The 2018 Family Gras Lineup looks amazing, here is who you will see this weekend:
Friday, February 2nd
Doors open at 5pm
- David Batise and the Gladiators at 5:30pm
- Deacon John and the Ivories at 7:15pm
Saturday, February 3rd
Doors open at 11am
- Imagination Movers at NOON
- Remedy at 1pm
- John Oates at 2:30pm
- Michael McDonald at 4:15pm
- Cyndi Lauper at 6pm
In addition to this great lineup of performers there will be food from local restaurants, an Art Market with local artist, a Kids Court area with games, face-painting and more.
You can bring with you single collapsible chairs, blankets, wheelchairs, medical scooters, strollers, wagons, and pull carts. You can’t bring food, ice chests, drinks, tents, skateboards, glass, pets, video/audio recording equipment, bicycles, weapons, drugs, illegal substances.
If you want the VIP treatment at Family Gras, you can purchase the VIP Royal Pass. We did this last year and it was SO worth it for the bathroom alone. The pass includes 1 meal and 1 drink on Friday, 2 meals and 2 drinks on Saturday, backstage access, premium stage viewing (my kids got to watch acts from the side of the stage), and CLEAN bathrooms. This alone would be my reason for paying the $125 per person (ages 6 and up) for the VIP Royal Pass.
After Family Gras each night you can enjoy the parades rolling in Jefferson Parish!
