The weather is finally starting to cool down (and warm up, and then cool down again) as the Holidays in New Orleans are in full swing. I’m pretty sure Jack Frost won’t quite be nipping at my nose, but there will be yuletide carols, and much more fabulous FREE things to do in New Orleans this week to do this week! Jefferson Parish Library 

The Jefferson Parish Library has a variety of holiday themed storytimes, crafts and parties throughout the Christmas season.

Miracle On Fulton St.

Daily from 11 am – 10 pm. Hourly snowfall, lights, and a gingerbread display in the hotel lobby. Live music and Santa every Friday and Saturday night starting at 6pm.

Kenner Christmas Village

Wednesday, December 6th – Sunday, December 10th.  Lights, snow, live entertainment and fun. While visiting the Christmas Village is free, there are some activities that have a $1-5 fee. Ice skating is $5 for 30 minutes.

Young Audiences of Louisiana Baby Artsplay™:

December 6th from 9:30am-10am at The Longue Vue House & Gardens: Let’s Move! Presented by the Helis foundation, Baby ArtsPlay is for children 1-2 years old and their caregivers. Come experience multi-sensory fun including relaxing approaches to support development and connectivity that will engage them while reaching milestones, all the while keeping them “immersed in New Orleans’ art and cultural institutions.


Holidays on Harrison

Wednesday, December 6th at 5 pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal School.  Choirs, Santa, snow, cookie decorating and more.

Luna fête

Wednesday, December 6th – Saturday, December 9th from 6pm -10pm in Lafayette Square. Art meets architecture in this stunning outdoor canvas where New Orleans tradition meets New era, sure to awe even the youngest viewers.


Thursday, December 7th from 5:30-8 pm at Metairie Bank Main Office on Metairie Rd. Hot cocoa, treats, free gift for the kids, Santa Photos (bring your camera and take your own) and fun!

Movies on the Mississippi

Friday, Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. – The Polar Express. Holiday movies shown on a 26 ft. screen at Convention Center Plaza on Julia St. Screenings include popcorn from Popcorn Bistro and hot chocolate from Café du Monde. The first 75 families in attendance each Friday will receive a free fleece blanket, courtesy of the DDD.

Holiday Cookie Decorating for the Kids

Friday, December 8th and Saturday, December 9th from 12-2 pm at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. Kids can decorate cookies at Le Croissant Restaurant located on the 1st floor next to Drago’s.

Friday, December 8th and Saturday, December 9th From 6pm – 10pm at 841 Iberville St. Enjoy Cocoa and Cookies, and admire the 5 fancy window decorations while you wait.

Snow Day

Saturday, December 9th at 9:30am at Lafreniere Park. Bring the kids to play in the SNOW!

Cookies with Santa

December 9th from 10am – 12pm at St. Martin’s Episcopal School. Cookies, hot cocoa, and a visit from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and their elves. Take a picture with Santa, listen to storytelling by Mrs. Claus, create a holiday craft, ride the jingle bus, and enjoy holiday music.  FREE for perspective George Cottage, prekindergarten, and kindergarten families receive complimentary admission when you register online for the Jan. 20 Open House.

NOMTOC Marrero Christmas Parade

December 9th at 10 am. The parade will start at Lapalco Boulevard and Westwood Drive, going down Lapalco Boulevard, making a left onto Ames Boulevard, a right onto the Westbank Expressway and ending at the Johnny Jacobs Playground.

Lights at the Lake Holiday Bash

Saturday, December 9th from 4-8pm at the New Canal Lighthouse. Christmas boat parade, music from school choirs and Benny Grunch and the Bunch, activities, and more.

Santa Meets Sousa” Holiday Concert

Saturday, December 9th from 7:30-9 pm at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. Join the Marine Corps New Orleans band as they celebrate the holiday season. FREE but you MUST have a ticket for this event. To get free tickets, please call the box office at (504) 287-0351

St. Nick Celebration

Saturday, December 9th and Sunday, December 10th from 11 am – 4 pm. Holiday fun, live music, kids activities and more. The fun and music are free, however Santa pictures are not.

Chanukah crafts and cooking at Whole Foods Market

Sunday, December 10th from 2 PM – 4 PM at Whole Food Market Metairie. Children will make Latkes, make a DIY pasta menorah and more! Registration is required.
